Created Creatively

Created Creatively

Thoughts:

I was thinking about what I wanted to write this devotional on and I’ve been learning a lot about forgiveness, so I thought, “Okay, I’ll just do that.” Then I felt like when I then asked God what I should write about, I saw the word creativity. Then I asked what that could mean to us, to you guys, and what some of us need to hear right now. I felt like He said, “Some of us have snuffed out the flame on our creativity, who we truly are.” I thought about how true this is and, how in this time where everything is standing so still and we have so much more time to think, that we might sit back and think, “man, I don’t even know what I like, who I am, or what I’m supposed to be doing.” That’s a scary place and it’s where people start trying to define themselves (thinking it’s going to make them whole again or give them an answer). In our efforts to fit in, we have allowed people that don’t follow God’s principles or just the loudest voice in our life to tell us what we should like/do/say. Yet, I feel like today God wants to redefine that for you.

All of us have our own ideas, opinions, likes and dislikes. Some of these have been put there by God and some by the enemy. Since we are created beings, we are always being influenced by something. Our opinions are always formed by what we’ve been told; sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s bad, but our opinions are always influenced. Some might look at that and maybe feel a bit defensive or want to feel like they are self-made; independent of that.

However, we are made to reflect so the problem with that is that some of us are letting the wrong things influence us and therefore are reflecting something that is not Jesus. This could be things like our parent’s bad attitude, our friends nasty conversations about others, or we sit looking in the mirror thinking, “There’s nothing I wouldn’t change because that’s not enough.” In my life, I’ve done all these things, I’ve thought all those things and for most of it, I did not reflect Jesus at all. I would hear verses that would talk about bringing God glory and I would think, God?! What about me?! I’m the one that needs something here!

Not cool, I know, but it was true! What I didn’t realize was that I did these things because I thought they would benefit me. Really, the were taking a piece of me and who God made me to be – I didn’t know that when I use the things that God has put in me to give Him glory it will always benefit me in some way. The world is tricky like that, but I want to say that because when the things you’re doing are for your own glory or your own status, then it’s going to take from you.

Who we truly are:

• Precious, loved, and honoured:

“Others were given in exchange for you. I traded their lives for your because you are precious to me. You are honoured and I love you.”
– Isaiah 43:4

• Strong in Him:

“He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless.”
– Isaiah 40:29

• Taken care of:

Give your burdens to the Lord and He will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.
– Psalm 55:22

The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.“
– Psalm 37:23-24

• Not alone:

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
– Matthew 28:20

• Beautiful and creative and with purpose:

“So God created mankind in His image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.”
– Genesis 1:27

“And He has filled them with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills.”
– Exodus 35:31

Reflection:

With all that being said, you have to want to believe these things about yourself. Something that helped me was saying these things out loud. Yes, out loud, to myself, in the mirror. That may be hard but that’s only because the enemy does not want you to bring to light what you have been believing about yourself (his lies). He does not want you to believe what God says about you.

The things that define you that go against who God says you are usually are things you will feel shame about or are just keeping in the dark in your mind. These things do not see the light of Heaven because if they did the darkness and negativity would have to leave your mind. I want to encourage all of you who are struggling with believing in the person that God says you are, to do what I did.

Look in the mirror and say them out loud, confess the negative thoughts or the things you can’t let go of to Jesus, to someone you love, to yourself in a letter! It’s time you start seeing the person that God sees and to start living in freedom from that mindset or that lifestyle, through Jesus! I love y’all and I’m praying for these things for all of you! Now go have a great week!
