Light in the Darkness

Light in the Darkness

For this devotional I want to just talk about darkness and light. Today I was reading in Isaiah and there was a couple verses that stood out to me. They reminded me of what’s happening right now, what’s happened this year and just what the world is like. Isaiah 59: 14-21 (look it up, read it, it’s good) talks about the fact that it seems there is no one righteous or seeking truth anymore. That all people want to do is spread lies and live in deceit. I mean, that verse, however long ago Isaiah wrote this, can still be applied today.

Sometimes we look around and can’t see any justice or anyone we can trust. With all the social media platforms and lies being spread through them like that – it’s hard to feel safe or free sometimes. Also, if you’re anything like me, you might feel overwhelmed with all the suffering and all the pain and problems in the world and maybe you want to just fix it all or scream at the world, “YOU NEED JESUS!” yet, we can’t. Looking at it all, it’s a lot.

There is a lot of brokenness and it’s inescapable. Although it’s hard to come to terms with, will never be perfect or totally fixed with every human being on this planet until Jesus comes again to restore the world. So, that reality, and the fact that we can’t fix it (or will never see suffering and sin totally wiped away on this earth in this life) can be daunting and can feel hopeless.

God understands that hopelessness though. It must break His heart that His kids are living lives that go against everything He’s said was good. Just like if someone you loved so, so much is doing things that are hurting them. That would make you sad and a little frustrated too! God is so patient that He is giving people a chance to turn to Him, give their lives to Jesus, and His purpose/direction for their lives. Until then, we have to deal with a broken world.

The question sometimes is ‘How?’ Well, in Isaiah 59:20-21 says this:

“And a redeemer will come to Zion, to those in Jacob who turn from transgressions,” declares the Lord. “And as for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord: “My spirit that is upon you and my words that I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, or out of the mouth of your offspring, or out of the mouth of your children’s offspring,” says the Lord, “from this time forth and forevermore.”

Isaiah 59: 20-21

When Isaiah says ‘redeemer,’ He is talking about Jesus and foretelling of the coming of the messiah to Earth (to save us). Jesus is also coming back so that suffering, pain, and tears will be no more (Revelation 21:14). Our fight to remain true and righteous, standing with God and to listening to what His word says. Not being swayed by the world or by culture and this will all be worth it. It’s okay that it’s a fight, but know that you are living in the light by spending time reading God’s truth. That no matter what changes, no matter what happens, you can always depend on Jesus to give you the truth about everything.

No bias, no tricks, no lies – just truth. Even though this world is living in darkness, and that people are struggling, we can be a light to them too in two ways. First, simply living in relationship with Jesus. Second, when given the opportunity and prompting by Holy Spirit, we can share with them why our lives look the way they do. You can trust that no matter what they say or think, you have the truth and the light in you.

“For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the people; but the Lord will arise upon you and His glory will be seen upon you.”

Isaiah 60:2

I hope this was encouraging to someone today with a discouraged heart and I hope this gave you a little bit of the knowledge of light in the midst of all this darkness 🙂 Love you guys!
