To grant to those who mourn in Zion — to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.Isaiah 61:3
Good Afternoon Church Family! Worship Wednesday and I took a Sabbath day yesterday, so it’s another Worship Thursday. Today I have for you a song, a verse and a blessing… in the form of a song. This will be the first original song I have shared with you, and it came to me from one of my favourite verses in Isaiah. Just before world lockdown hit, I was having quite the morning with Jesus and I just got suspended in these verses. Like he just kept me there… seeking. Absorbing. And then the words started to form a melody, and this song was born. It’s simple. It was my prayer. And it’s also my story… God has profoundly shaped me and met me and brought me back to his truth and love through lifting my song to him in times where my heart could only groan. He continually teaches me that this is a gifted weapon, like the slingshot, meager but powerful against a heavy spirit when used in faith. Powerful against despair. Powerful when his spirit in me is stirred to make a joyful (or sorrow-filled) noise unto Him in thanksgiving, clothing myself in His armour.
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord;Isaiah 61:10,11
my soul shall exult in my God,
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation;
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
to sprout up before all the nations.
So you have the song and the verses, and the other song, a blessing over you today. Where is God showing you his restoration these days? His blessings? How is He teaching you to lean into his “gifted weapons” ? What are the spiritual weapons He has placed in your heart?
Be blessed, dear friends.
