“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.”
– Mark 1:35
How often do we connect with God? As believers in Christ our most important goal is to have a relationship with God. He is our father and friend but is he our best friend? So often we put our time and energy into things that are here on Earth like our friends, family, or school because it is a physical interaction. We can clearly see and hear them so it’s easy to get drawn to them first. So how do we build a relationship with God?
There are many ways that we can connect like reading our Bible, praying, worshipping, listen to church messages, spend time in creation, etc. Not everyone is going to have the same way of connecting with God. I connect best when I am in a room that has no distractions and I can listen to worship music or when I can spend time in nature. I don’t do as well when I have to sit and read, or do listening prayer, because I find it hard to focus.
When we are trying to grow our relationship with God it is important that we practice all the different ways of connecting with Him but it is okay to have a favourite ways to connect and interact with Him. When we can take our preferred way to meet with God, bring it to others, and share those ideas then we can build community (sharing our experiences and encouragement through our interactions).
Throughout these next weeks let us focus on finding ways that we can connect with God best. We can also see where we struggle and set aside time to work on those. In the verse at the beginning of this devotional, it talks about how Jesus got up before the sun came up to go spend time connecting with God. This grew his relationship with Him – so my challenge to you this week is to set time aside during your day that you can go connect with God. Practice hearing His voice and growing in different ways to meet with Him!
Here are some questions to think about:
- How do I connect with God best? What is a way that I could grow in?
- Is there time I should be setting aside to connect with God?
- Are there distractions that I need to get rid of when trying to connect with God?
- Tell God how you want to connect with Him and practice hearing His voice through that.
I hope that you all have a blessed week!!
