By comparing the account of King Saul and King David in the Old Testament with the realities of the early church in the New Testament, we can begin to understand the universal message of unity intended by God for His people, as communicated in Scripture. However, the only way the many perceived incompatibilities that come between us all can be overcome lies in recognizing and living out our shared identity as brothers and sisters in Christ. Only as we know and live out our common identity can we become enablers of unity rather than destroyers of it. Key texts include 1 Samuel 23:1-14, Ephesians 4:1-6, 1 Peter 3:8, and Galatians 3:26-28.
